Meet Sandy Malone – she’s the political journalist turned successful destination wedding planner whose advice, expertise and internationally-syndicated blogs are regularly featured in BRIDES and The Huffington Post. Sandy is very hands on and works with every traditional and DIY wedding and event client personally.
Her book “How to Plan Your Own Destination Wedding: Do-It-Yourself Tips from an Experience Professional” gives step-by-step guidance for planning a successful event using her own proven strategies. (Can I have links to BRIDES and HuffPost archives in this paragraph? Sandy is a contributor at Huffington Post and Brides.
Sandy and her husband Bill (a retired SWAT commander) opened Weddings in Vieques on the “Jewel of the Spanish Virgin Islands” in 2007, after experiencing their own wedding planner-catastrophe while planning their wedding on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, in 2004. They’ve created a better wedding experience for hundreds of couples from everywhere. Sandy is widely considered to be one of the foremost destination wedding experts in the world.
In 2016, along with the release of her book, Sandy expanded her planning expertise and opened Sandy Malone Weddings & Events, based in her native Washington, DC area. The company offers traditional and DIY wedding planning services all over the Caribbean and North America.
Sandy debuted her television career in 2013 as the star of TLC’s reality show “Wedding Island.” The show was sold to FOX International and translated into countless languages and shown all over the world as “Bodas Increibles,” Casamientos Increibles,” and a variety of other titles. It continues to air in re-runs and is available for sale on Amazon.
For years it’s been considered taboo for wedding planners to give away their secrets, best vendors, and tricks to planning flawless weddings, but Sandy decided to break that mold. You cannot stop the DIY-craze, so Sandy chose to embrace it and help other DIY brides and grooms make their own weddings more perfect than her own was.
Sandy’s also considered an expert in helping brides and grooms choose their wedding destination and honeymoon spots. She contributes travel reviews for a number of publications, and shares her picks or best destination wedding venues and locations on her Wedding Destinations page. (put in link to that page?) Many of the wedding destination venues Sandy recommends are Bucket List-worthy, but not as well-known as what you find on bigger travel sites.
Sandy was the Winner of “Most Popular Wedding Reality Celebrity” and “Best Wedding Reality Show” for 2014 from Wedding Market, a popular wedding industry group.
