Celebrating Mother’s Day On Jekyll Island

Happy Mother’s Day to everybody out there who has babies, grandbabies, fur babies, and others they consider their children. I just got home from a fabulous Mother’s Day Brunch at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel with my mom and some friends, and all I want to do is nap. But first, we blog.

This year, Mother’s Day was a lot more fun than last year. A year ago, my mother (who has Alzheimer’s) was recovering from a series of bad UTIs and had just moved into assisted living after a short stay in memory care.

A year later and my mom has bounced back and she’s doing great. She’s made friends where she lives, her girlfriends visit a lot to take her to lunch and shopping, and she has a boyfriend. My husband takes her flowers a couple of times a week (a great excuse to check up on her) and they get their hair cut together by Emily at Strands of Design. I take her shopping. And shopping. And shopping. If you know my mom, you understand what kind of commitment that is.

Mom is finally settled and happy and safe. And, as a bonus for me, very proud of her daughter, “the author.” I’m doing a book signing where she lives at Vitality Living Frederica on May 24th at 1 pm and I’m super excited about it. I think it gives my mom a real boost when she sees my books on display in shops or, even better, being read by one of her neighbors.

She had a blast attending my recent book signings at the Mosaic Museum on Jekyll Island. Mom sat next to me at the table and repeatedly apologized for my penmanship as I wrote personalized notes and signed my books. It was hilarious. And awful. But mostly, hilarious. She called me that night and told me that she wants to help at ALL of my future book signings. God help me LOL I don’t think there’s enough Xanax in the whole world for that.

I’ll be signing books at Golden Isles Olive Oil on St. Simons Island on May 21st from 5-7 pm (I think there’s a wine tasting that night, too) and I’ll be signing books in the gift shop at the historic Jekyll Island Club Hotel (featured on the cover of Book Two – “In Bloom on Jekyll”) on May 25 from 11-4 pm.

Stop in and see me on May 25th and tell me you read this blog and know it’s my birthday and I’ll put you on a list to receive Gem of the Golden Isles Series Book Three – “Treasure on Jekyll” free as an eBook when it’s released.

Until next time, happy reading. The picture up top is me and my mom. It’s an old one that my husband drags out anytime one of us claims that we don’t look like each other. Hahaha!

Happy Mother’s Day!
