Happy Tuesday!
Chances are you’re wondering what’s up with all the video content I’ve been posting. If you follow me on social media (Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) you’ve probably noticed that I’m posting a lot more vids than ever before. That’s because, apparently, potential readers need to see videos to want to read my books – still pictures aren’t enough to break the algorithm barrier that’s keeping me from getting the most out of social media.
The video I’ve shared here today was the first one I posted when I jumped back on YouTube after a very, very long hiatus. I’m posting on Pinterest again after the same kind of break. Interestingly, my wedding planning Pinterest boards are still getting more than 13k views a month even though I hadn’t opened it in almost 10 years. What the heck?
So, is this new effort working? I have no idea. I’m getting lots of views but not a big rush of sales. And I’m not going to lie – it’s super frustrating because I’d rather be writing another book than editing a video about a book I already wrote. But this was what I committed to when I decided to self-publish. A traditional publishing route would be less labor intensive, but you can only publish one book a year for the first few years that way, and you only make a pittance on each book sold once you’ve paid your publisher and your agent (trust me – I’ve done it that way).
I’m going to continue creating more video content about my books and sharing it all over the place in the hopes that it catches fire and goes viral. Every time one of my followers shares something I’ve written or posted, it really helps. Thank you.
That’s what I’m up to this week and I hope you’ll hang in there with me while I get it figured out. You don’t even want to know how long it takes to make each video.
Until next time, happy reading!
Sandy
