Hi there!
I’ve gotten lots of “where is book three?” messages this week and that’s totally fair because I said it would be out by the end of the month. Guess what? I blew my own deadline. My husband says that I shouldn’t beat myself up about it because it’s not that big of a deal, but it is. I know what it’s like to get into a series and want to read the next book immediately.
So here’s the dealio… I’m having shoulder surgery tomorrow and I’ll be back to editing/proofreading as soon as the pain meds wear off. I need to put out a cleaner book (fewer typos) on the first try this time around. I wanted to crawl into a hole when I found mistakes in Books One and Two. I’ve fixed them in the new editions but that doesn’t change the fact that they existed and were printed.
Rumor has it (or the doctor said – you choose how to interpret it) that I can’t use my right arm for a six weeks. He’s kidding, right? Ay yay yay. We shall see. I can type with my left hand, but can I cover the whole keyboard with my left like I can with my right? I doubt it.
But that’s my poor excuse for making readers wait a little bit longer for Book Three. I had so much to do ahead of the surgery that I had to put the book aside. I don’t like to admit that – it’s been finished for awhile. Just needed final edits and proofing. But I had to prioritize life for a few days instead of books.
I’m going to keep myself entertained with my own TBR (to be read) pile of books. It’s getting out of control. I’ve had Prince Harry’s “The Spare” waiting on the bedside table for more than a year. I’ve just added Mary Kay Andrews’ “Summers at the Saint” to the top of that pile. Vastly different books that I’m dying to read. But there are so many more waiting too. Maybe I’ll just keep you posted on what I’m reading while I can’t write!
In a perfect world, I’d win the lottery and spend the rest of my life reading. Until then, I get to devour books on my down days and use discipline because it’s really easy to say “forget work” and stay up too late reading. But the doctor told me not to work after shoulder surgery so that’s a free pass to read as much as I want.
The picture at the top of my blog today is from my book signing last weekend at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel gift shot. The gentleman on the left is David Fisher, the talented photographer who took the cover picture on Book Two. We’re posing with the woman who bought the first book of the day. We met some very cool people and sold a bunch of books. I’d declare it a success.
Until next time, happy reading!
Sandy
